Name: Marcus Crawford & Jonathon Gibbs
Business/Location: Bro-Ritos Food Truck/New Jersey
Specialty: Fun Mexican Food
What problem does your business solve?: When people are hungry, they look for great eats from the Bros!
What makes your business unique?: BRAND BRAND BRAND! We are able to deliver an experience with great food! People are buying into our brand of fun and enjoying a better flavor profile than most fast casual locations.
What’s your story?: I started out doing the 9-5 gig, and then started the first mobile franchise food truck for the soup company I worked for. Once the soup truck was started, I teamed up with my partner John to push the business, but the soup business went south due to the managing company. We always had plans to build our own business, and that led to the creation of Bro-Ritos in 2016. With industry experience from the past truck, we were able to get the wheels spinning with Bro-Ritos and have been ripping and running across NJ ever since.
One piece of advice you have for other food entrepreneurs: Do your research and create a process so you can focus on specific elements of the business in order to grow.
What do you wish you had known before you started your business?: Realistically speaking, you can have all the knowledge in the world and something is still going to go wrong. There isn't one specific thing I wish I had known; instead, I have been able to embrace the journey as it comes and continue to grow from the lessons learned on the road.
What’s your greatest challenge in your business and how are you overcoming it?: The weather in NJ introduces a seasonal issue. We are looking to open a storefront by end of 2018 in order to generate cash flow during the food truck’s slow season.
What are you most proud of about your business?: I am most proud that my team of three guys under 30 have built a real business and brand. It's pretty cool to sit back and reflect on the fact that we have and are continually building off an idea that was once in our heads.
What do you love most about being a food entrepreneur? In the food truck industry, I enjoy being able to have moments with various people every day, as well as seeing returning guests. Food seems to make people smile, so we are able to have great moments with people all over as we travel around.
