When did your farmers market get started and how did it come about?: The Historic Downtown Farmers Market began in 2008 with fewer than 10 vendors. It has exploded into a phenomenal market with more than 25 vendors! We have everything you could possibly crave from sweet treats to healthy items. Our Farms have some of the freshest produce and fruits in the area. We also offer specialized food items and food products from small, local vendors. All of these vendors are conveniently located at the Grove PATH Plaza. Customers can grab their items and take the train home or walk around and see what the historic downtown area has to offer.
What makes your farmers market unique?: We are near the Grove Street PATH station so our vendors benefit from having hundreds of commuters walking near or through market in their regular daily travels. It makes it easy to attract consumers. .
Who are your regular market shoppers? What are their general demographics?: Most of our market shoppers are adults traveling home after work.
When selecting vendors for your farmers market, what do you look for? Are there any gaps in types of vendors or products you are especially looking for?: We look for vendors and food segments that we don’t currently have. We are always looking for healthy options. But we don’t include prepared food or food trucks.
What is one piece of advice you have for food and beverage entrepreneurs who want to be included in your farmers market?: I advise everyone to be prepared and organized.
What are you most proud of about your farmers market?: We started with three vendors and grew to more than 25 vendors.
Do you have plans to incorporate anything new in your farmers market in the upcoming season?: We would like to have more vendors offering baked goods.
